Jio, India’s fastest growing network which took over the telecom world by surprise is now said to have been affected by a leak. This leak which is considered to be one of the biggest data breaches in India is said to have affected over 120 million users.
The news came in today that is on 9th July when a website by the name of magicapk.com started displaying details of jio users once their number was entered. The leaked details included the users first name, middle name, last name, email id, circle-ID, along with the SIM activation date and time. Surprising right? Luckily the aadhaar number which is considered to be a unique ID for an individual wasn’t leaked in the numbers we checked.
The leak, as huge as it seems, is scary and surely questions the security of such a big telecom company. Some of the numbers that we entered displayed no info, however after we refreshed the page 4-5 times, the info appeared eventually. You can check if you were affected by this leak or not by going on this link.
In an official statement, Jio said,
“We have come across the unverified and unsubstantiated claims of the website and are investigating it. Prima facie, the data appears to be inauthentic. We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with highest security. Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken.”
