The Reliance AGM 2017 took place today on 21st July 2017 and it was indeed something to watch. Mukesh Ambani announced facts that were too good to believe, and they kept on coming one after the other. Reliance’s turnover in 1977 was about 70 crores which has increased to a tremendous 330,000 crores today. Amazing, isn’t it? Well, this is just the start, Mukesh Ambani also said that 1000 rupees invested in Reliance shares back in 1977 are worth 16,54,503 rupees today, over 1600 times more valuable. It took no less than 170 days for Jio to amass 100 million customers. 100 million customers….using Jio’s 309 or a higher priced recharge pack, I’ll let you do the math on how much Reliance is earning. Who would’ve expected that Jio, a new telecom operator back in 2015 would stand up to already existing giants like Airtel, Idea and give them a run for their money? Also, on an average Jio added 7 customers per second every day. Before Jio’s launch, India was 155th in the world in mobile data consumption, now India ranks #1.
JioPhone: Specs, features, and price
Now enough of Jio bragging, let’s talk about the new 4G feature phone. Users of the JioPhone will have access to UNLIMITED VOICE CALLS as well as UNLIMITED DATA at just Rs. 153. Users will only be able to use Jio sim card in this phone. The JioPhone’s net price will be Rs. 0, yes you heard that right. However, you’ll have to pay a refundable deposit of 1500 rupees. This is Jio’s plan to end the digital exclusion in India and it sounds great. The phone will have a 2.4-inch QVGA display, SD card slot, and will also support all the 24 Indian languages. It also support Jio apps like JioMusic and JioCinema. Don’t worry, Reliance made sure to include the headphone jack.
The surprising thing here is that the phone also consists of NFC. The phone will support digital payments like Android Pay and Samsung Pay after an OTA that is schedule to arrive by the end of this year. The phone also comes with a voice assistant that seems to work flawlessly. The voice assistant support English as well as Hindi language. Also, the phone can easily connect to any TV set using the TV-Cable.
The booking for the phone will start from August 24th and will start shipping by September. The phone will be delivered on first come first serve basis. Jio is targeting to sell 5 million phones a week.
